“You know me: I'm not one to chitchat on the phone for too long.”
You got a telephone call from your nephew. You've been talking for a few minutes, but now you want to end the conversation. You usually don't like long phone conversation. You say this.
“He gets cranky when he doesn't have a nap.”
Your young son is crying while you're talking on the phone with your brother. You think it's because he hasn't slept this afternoon. You explain like this.
“You're a real pain in the neck, you know?”
Your brother's car ran out of gas, so he called you to ask if you'd come pick him up. You're annoyed, so you say this.
“They're not actively searching for a replacement yet.”
You're quitting your job at the end of this year. Your company will probably need to hire someone to replace you, but they haven't placed any job ads or hired a recruiter.
“Please note that all applications must be accompanied by two letters of recommendation.”
