“Hi Jane, I'm not feeling well this morning.”
You don't want to go to work this morning because you stayed out late last night drinking and now you have a hangover. But you don't want to tell your boss that that's the reason, so you write an email to her starting with this.
“No way!”
Your wife told you that she saw a friend of hers from college at the grocery store today. You're surprised because your wife went to college in another state far away. You want to show how surprised you are, so you say this.
“I got pulled over on my way home last night.”
Last night when you were driving home, a police car stopped you because one of your headlights was out. This morning, you're talking with a friend at work and you want to tell him the story of what happened. You say:
“Guess who I saw today!”
Today when you were at the grocery store you ran into someone who you didn't expect to see - your friend from college who you haven't seen in several years. You were excited to see her. When you get home, you want to tell your husband about it.
“What do you have to lose?”
Your friend is trying to decide whether to send an application to a graduate school that he wants to get into. He really wants to go there but doesn't think that he'll be accepted. You say this to convince him to apply.
