“She was promoting her new book.”
You went to a talk given by a business book author last night. You are telling your friend about the event and the speaker. You explain why she gave the talk by saying this.
“Do you have an account with us?”
Banks provide some free services for their customers, like cashing checks. You ask the bank teller to cash a check, so she needs to know if you are a customer of that bank. She asks you this.
“I'd like to deposit this into checking, please.”
You are at a bank. You have some money that you want to put into your bank account. You fill out a deposit slip and say this as you give the slip and the money to the bank teller.
“Can you tell me what my balance is?”
You're at your bank. You're talking to the bank teller and you want to know how much money is in your account. This is what you ask the teller.
“Can you please swipe your card and enter your PIN number?”
You are at a bank and withdrawing money from your account. You didn't want to use an ATM, so you are talking to the bank teller. After you tell him the amount you want to withdraw, the teller asks you this.
